The mustache power train continued through Yankee Stadium on Saturday as Johnny Damon became the second mustached player to hit a walk-off in as many days. The Yankees made three comebacks during the see-saw battle overcoming 5-1, 10-6, and 11-10 deficits. On his fifth hit, Damon tied the game in the eighth with a two run single but in the top half of the ninth, the most unlikely of scenarios saw David DeJesus take the first pitch of the inning deep to right off of Mariano Rivera giving the Royals an 11-10 lead. It was the first homerun Rivera had given up since August of last year. Fresh off the DL, Jorge Posada picked up Rivera and crushed a game-tying homerun to right field blowing Joakim Soria’s first save in 16 straight chances. And with two men aboard, Johnny Damon delivered the knockout on his SIXTH hit to bring the Bronx Bombers back to .500.

It hasn’t been the easiest season to stomach, but the magic of a walk-off resonates well for fans anxious to see some signs of hope. It’s not so early anymore with the All-Star game right around the corner, and at 6.5 games back, the Yankees need to gain some ground before the Sox start to make their run.
