We all know that Gary Sheffield likes to speak his mind whenever a microphone and camera come within range of his big mouth, but is his recent racial crusade raising eyebrows over his slandering or an actual concern for his cause? Well if it was anything other than slandering, my guess would be that he might have raised these issues while in the clubhouse that employed him, oh wait, that’s right, Gary didn’t want to ruffle any feathers while he was getting paid $40M, that might have jeopardized his ability to perform for any other reason than money.

As he did with the Brewers and Dodgers, Sheffield feels the need to start cursing his former team and the successful dynamic that failed to deliver him a championship. New York Yankees manager Joe Torre is the latest target in Sheffield’s racial crusade and is accused of calling out black players like Tony Womack and Kenny Lofton in front of the team while taking the coveted white player behind closed doors to do his evil bidding. Now, we are not in the club house, so we can only speculate as to how Joe Torre is behind closed doors, but if his demeanor in the bright spotlight of the media’s eye is any indication, it is hard to believe Torre has any racial motives behind his success. The other comments Sheffield dropped regarding Derek Jeter may have proven Sheffield’s bias in his whole racial crusade, calling Derek Jeter black, because as best friends while on the team, Sheffield wouldn’t acknowledge Jeter as coming from a interracial family. Wait, to clarify, Sheffield meant “black and white.”

Now there has been a history of racial separation throughout every facet of America, and I am not throwing out anything Gary Sheffield raises in his wonderfully media driven interviews, but I am condoning how he approaches his course of action and how cowardice he is to attack only after he collects his money. I can’t wait to see the next step in Gary Sheffield’s crusade when he gets pushed out of Detroit, because you know he is not man enough to speak out against his current team, especially when he is the second highest paid player.
